Final, Jazz 110-97: A tale of two
halves tonight as
scores 24 of the first 33 points of the second half and cruises. Mehmet Okur
scores 14 points and grabs 12 rebounds in the second half and C.J. Miles hit
some key 3-pointers.
1:00, Jazz 110-94: The wheels have officially come off. Doc Rivers just got tossed for his second technical after sarcastically clapping at official Ed Malloy following the first tech. It was that kind of second half for the Celtics, who were actually ahead by 12 in the first half.
2:53, Jazz 101-91: Celtics were on a 6-0 run but C.J. Miles is allowed to take rhythm dribble and hit 3-pointer for 10-point lead. Celtics are missing a lot of easy shots. Meanwhile fans escort fan out of arena for his trash talking.6:41, Jazz 95-81: This one may be over as Carlos Boozer completes a three-point play, followed by a lucky Wesley Matthews bank and then Boozer blocks Ray Allen’s 3-point attempt, gathers the ball and dunks on a breakaway. Utah has dominated the second half and the Celtics look near knocked out.
Jazz 88-79: Celtics
need to make a run because they keep trading baskets with
Doc Rivers has put the starters back in the game but they aren’t making much of
an impact and Marquis Daniels has missed two free throws in the quarter already.
End of third quarter
Jazz 82-73: The Celtics get hammered in the quarter as Utah hits five 3-pointers and speeds up the pace. The Celtics score the final two baskets of the quarter but they need to stop Deron Williams penetration (good luck with that) and start hitting shots. Boston was 8 for 23 from the field in the quarter.
3:06 Jazz 75-65: Things are getting really physical here and Glen Davis took a Paul Millsap elbow to the chops but walked off the court on his own power. Celtics are 4 for 16 from the field in the third quarter.
5:50 Jazz 73-63: The Jazz is on a 24-9 run to begin the half and the Celtics look lethargic. Mehmet Okur has 11 of the 24 points, nine of those on 3-pointers and he also has two blocks. Something got into him at halftime. The Celtics are 3 for 11 from the field in the third quarter.
8:36 Jazz 65-58: This is reminiscent of earlier in the season when the Celtics were in a coma as the Jazz has raced out to 16-4 run to begin the second half. Mehmet Okur has eight of those points while Deron Williams has been more aggressive driving to the basket.
End of quarter Celtics 54-49: The Cs lifted off the pedal after Ray Allen drilled a 3 in the corner with 2:01 left. Ray Allen turned the ball over a couple times (lost it the first time, double-dribbled the second). Allen and Rondo missed a couple lay-ups. Meanwhile the Jazz chipped a way slightly with CJ Miles (13 points) and Wesley Matthews (6) closing out the quarter strong.
2:17 Celtics 51-42: Paul Pierce is trying to give CJ Miles the business. He’s had a couple of isolations in a row, giving the fist pump after driving hard by Miles and getting the foul call (he made them both.)
5:25 Celtics 43-35: Nate Robinson was pretty much invisible in Dallas, but he’s blowing the Jazz up right now. Utah had cut it to 1 on a CJ Miles layup, set up the offense, and set a screen that Michael Finley a nice look at a 3. Then, Robinson started firing, drilling a 3 from the wing then a nother from up top.
9:02 Celtics 31-29: The bench is trying to dust off a bad night in Dallas, but they’re close to giving back a lead that had gotten as high as seven points. They’ve turned the ball over a couple times so far in the quarter, and they’ve given up a couple bad baskets, including a Kosta Koufos dunk.
End of quarter: The Jazz missed six of their first seven shots and fell behind early, even with Deron Williams putting up eight in the quarter. Paul Pierce went for 7, but Glen Davis scored 9 just by hustling. He got to the free throw line three times and knocked them all down.
2:48 Celtics 22-14: A heads-up play leads to 3 for the Celtics. Rasheed Wallace missed a jumper from the left side.
Ashton Kutcher Kyle Korver grabbed the rebound. Rajon Rondo poked it from him. Ray Allen caught it in mid-air. Glen Davis raced back to the offensive end, took a pass from Allen, got the layup and the foul and made the free throw.
4:52 Celtics 13-12: Donny Marshall made the argument that Jazz fans don’t like their team as much as they hate the opponent. Hearing the reception Rasheed Wallace just received makes that perfectly believable.
6:31 Celtics 11-6: In a sign of the apocalypse, Ray Allen hit the side of the backboard with a baseline jumper. He came back down and swished a long 2, setting the globe back on its axis.
8:41 Celtics 6-2: Paul Pierce is aggressive early throwing down a fast break dunk and nailing a free throw line jumper.
Pregame: Traditional starters for the Celtics. The Jazz are going with C.J. Miles, Carlos Boozer, Mehmet Okur, Wesley Matthews, and Deron Williams.
