Celtics get outscored 11-3 in the last 5:11 and fall after a valiant effort in Game 1. LeBron James scores nine of the 11 points in that Cleveland run while the Celtics go the final 2:16 without a point.
Fourth quarter, 22.0, Cavaliers 101-93
Celtics turn the ball over and then LeBron responds with a dagger 3-pointers. Celtics played well for 3 1/2 quarters but fell apart after it was tied at 90.
Fourth quarter, 1:02, Cavaliers 98-93
Kevin Garnett scores layup to cut lead to one, but LeBron scores on a runner as the 24-second clock expires and then Shaq puts back his own miss and the Cavaliers appear to be in command. Celtics are 7 for 22 in the quarter and are getting no calls.
Fourth quarter, 3:00, Cavaliers 94-91
Shaq hits an up-and-under layup and Rajon Rondo gets crushed on a layup attempt and hits one of two free throws. LeBron James then followed with a putback of his own runner for a 3-point lead and the Celtics call time out with 4 left on the 24-second clock. The Celtics offense has sputtered since Rondo left briefly with his fourth foul.
Fourth quarter, 5:02, Tied at 90
Cleveland led by as many as four with the ball but the Celtics have been able to get key stops and Kendrick Perkins has taken advantage of double teams to score easy layups. The last two Cleveland baskets has been a Shaq hook and LeBron 3-pointer, and the Celtics will take both of those.
Fourth quarter, 8:46, Cavaliers 85-81
The Celtics offense hasn’t been the same since Rajon Rondo picked up his fourth foul and the Cavaliers are being physical with no foul calls and creating turnovers. LeBron James and Mo Williams have 45 of Cleveland’s points. The Celtics need one of the Big Three to step up because they have all been quiet.
End of third quarter, Cavaliers 79-78
It will be interesting to see what Doc Rivers has to say after this one because Boston has been called for 22 fouls to the Cavaliers’ 13. Cavaliers end quarter on a 21-9 run to take the lead on a LeBron runner at the buzzer. Mo Williams was the difference with 14 points in the period. The Celtics are lead by Rajon Rondo with 24 points.
Third quarter, 4:46, Celtics 69-62
Mo Williams dunks on Paul Pierce and then stops for a jumper off the fastbreak and the Celtics can’t put away the Cavs, which was expected. Celtics ball in a big sequence.
Third quarter, 5:52, Celtics 69-58
Celtics trying to withstand another Cleveland run and the Cavaliers are going right at the basket and not settling for jumpers. LeBron James has 21 points but he is not getting help from his teammates. The rest of the Cavs are 15 for 35 from the field for 37 points. Rajon Rondo has 14 points while Kevin Garnett has 14 points and eight rebounds.
Halftime, Celtics 54-43
The Celtics have withstood a few Cleveland runs and Rajon Rondo is making a mockery of the Cleveland backcourt with 19 points, 8 assists and 3 rebounds. The Celtics have committed 15 fouls to Cleveland’s 8 but are hanging in, although foul trouble could be an issue down the stretch. LeBron James has 14 points on 4-for-10 shooting, 3 assists and 3 rebounds.
Second quarter, 2:39, Celtics 46-38
Key is for Celtics to keep lead at half but they are wasting chances to extend lead with turnovers. Rajon Rondo has 15 points and is outplaying Mo Williams, who has 4. The issue for Boston is foul trouble. They have 14 fouls and Cleveland has attempted 15 free throws, which is keeping the Cavs close.
Second quarter, 5:37, Celtics 42-33
Celtics withstand Cavs run and are on a 10-4 surge of their own, thanks to crisp passing off backdoor plays. Cavs seem uncertain of how to attack Celtics defense because they haven’t seen this type of defense from Boston this season. The Celtics have been whistled for 11 fouls, Cleveland 6.
Second quarter, 8:32, Celtics 30-26
Celtics led by as many as 10 but Delonte West goes on a personal 6-0 run to spark Cavs. The Celtics stopped Cleveland twice on one possession but West scored on an layup on the third time and that seemed to motivate Cleveland. Celtics are 0 for 4 from the field in the quarter and Rasheed Wallace just picked up his third foul.
End of first quarter, Celtics 26-20
Rajon Rondo ends the quarter with a 3-pointer and the Celtics shoot 52 percent in the quarter and are looking like they will be around for a while. LeBron James has 7 points but on just 1-for-5 shooting as the Cavs shot just 30 percent in the period and took too many jumpers.
First quarter, 2:15, Celtics 18-14
The Celtics aren’t playing a perfect game but they are making a statement by taking an early lead. Paul Pierce has 8 points while Rajon Rondo and Kevin Garnett each have 4. Kendrick Perkins was knocked out the game briefly with a shot to the mouth that required five stitches on his lip. He will return, but Glen Davis has already picked up three fouls, two of them weren’t very smart.

A few good signs here. Paul Pierce is off to a fast start (8 points) and the Celtics are playing solid defense. But they already have two turnovers. But the C’s are not imtimidated and are looking like the same team that blasted Miami.
