Celtics withstand 17-2 run and lose all momentum before gaining it back with key hoops and taking series back to Boston even. Rajon Rondo finishes with 19 assists, none in the fourth quarter. Ray Allen led Boston with 22 points.

LeBron James misses a free throw that would have completed a three-point play and then the Celtics respond with two straight baskets for a 14-point lead with 2:23 left and Cleveland was done. All five starters are in double figures for Boston while the Cavs are led by James with 24.

Fourth quarter, 2:34, Celtics 95-83
Paul Pierce’s layup breaks a 15-0 Cleveland run but this game is far from over, the Celtics need either a couple of stops or couple of buckets.

Cavs on an 11-0 run as the Celtics have forgotten how to execute offensively and the Celtics are out of fouls so the Cavs can be aggressive and score while the clock is stopped. Boston has gone 3:16 without a point.

Celtics have gone 3:01 without a point while the Cavs are pecking away trying to get under 10 with four minutes left and then rally with 3-pointers. Rajon Rondo is still stuck on 19 assists while the Cavs are running pick-and-rolls. Also, Cleveland is in the bonus.

Fans are heading to the exit as the Celtics increase their lead to 25 and the Cavaliers look flat. Ray Allen has 20 points and Rasheed Wallace with by far his best game as a Celtics with 17. LeBron James and Antawn Jamison has 31 points combined by the rest of the Cavs are 12 for 39 from the field.

End of third quarter, Celtics 83-60
Celtics play their best quarter in two years, outscoring the Cavs 31-12 and taking the air out of the Q Arena. Ray Allen has 20 while Rajon Rondo has 19 assists. His next one will break a Celtics club record for assists in a playoff game.

Celtics on a 26-9 run and are playing as well as they have all season, stifling the Cavaliers defensively and moving the ball around for easy shots offensively. Ray Allen has 20 points (10 in the quarter) while the Cavs are 4 for 15 from the field and LeBron James is trying to do everything himself. Also, the Celtics have been whistled for one foul this quarter to Cleveland’s five.

Celtics are plugging away despite the amazing foul disparity (now 17-4) and Rajon Rondo has been brilliant (10 points, 16 assists). The key is keeping the lead when LeBron James takes over. He is only 3 for 8 from the field for 10 points.

Hard to fathom Celtics lead given Cleveland has been whistled for just four team fouls compared with 16 for Boston. And the Celtics have also committed 10 turnovers, good for 15 Cleveland points. Ray Allen has 10 points but the Celtics’ leading scorer is Rasheed Wallace with 13 in nine minutes. LeBron James has taken just five shots and has 8 points.

The Celtics have 10 turnovers (good for 15 Cleveland points) and 13 personal fouls to Cleveland’s four and still lead by five, so they will take that. But LeBron James has just three points, so they need to prepare for the onslaught.

Cavaliers using their bench to make a run but the Celtics also have nine turnovers and are killing their chances of extending the lead. And the Celtics are beginning to pile up fouls. They have been called for 12 to the Cavaliers’ four.

Celtics score the first 9 points of the second period, five of those by Rasheed Wallace, who is playing angry but keeping his mouth shot and already has 10 points, including two 3-pointers. And there is little foul trouble so far. Paul Pierce has two but no other Celtic has more than one.

Celtics have to do something to stop J.J. Hickson, who comes off the bench, gets the ball off the pick-and-roll and completes a three-point play. LeBron James scored just three points in the first quarter, another case of being quiet early. The Celtics committed seven turnovers in the first quarter but still lead. Rajon Rondo already has six points and five assists.

Anthony Parker has been the key so far with two 3-pointers and the Cavs are getting all the loose balls to stay close and they have also attempted eight more shots than Boston. The Celtics, however, have five turnovers but Rasheed Wallace hit his first shot of the night, a good sign.

Celtics again off to a good start and are playing solid defense but LeBron James has been quiet and will soon erupt. Paul Pierce already has 5 points.
