Game 3: Knicks at Celtics

Tonight’s miscellany …

Tip-off: 7:30 p.m.
Records: Celtics (1-1), Knicks (1-0)
Broadcast info: CSN, WEEI (850AM)
Projected starters:

PG: Rajon Rondo
SG: Ray Allen
SF: Paul Pierce
PF: Kevin Garnett
C: Shaquille O’Neal

PG: Raymond Felton
SG: Landry Fields
SF: Danilo Gallinari
PF: Amar’e Stoudemire
C: Timofey Mozgof

That’s Amar’e: Stoudemire led all preseason scorers at 25.7 points per game. Sounds about right, doesn’t it? Stoudemire can score on Kevin Garnett, and without Kendrick Perkins to help, he Amar’e could have a big night. It remains to be seen whether the dynamic power forward will show a greater interest in defense with his new team.

JO:Near the midpoint of Wednesday’s game, Jermaine O’Neal was still 0-for-the-season from the field. Tommy Heinsohn called O’Neal “snakebitten.” The Celtics big man did eventually make a shot — he’s hit 1 of 5 shots in two games — but he really has looked somewhat cursed. The talent is there, as is the defensive effort. But the Celtics could use an effective O’Neal on offense to open things up for the second unit.

BOS vs. NYK: The Knicks were good in the mid-90’s. The Celtics not so much. Now the Celtics are good, and the Knicks still have a long way to go. How great would it be if both teams were contenders at the same time? If Carmelo Anthony becomes a Knick, this rivalry could be a lot of fun again.
