The Globe’s Chris Gasper and Chad Finn examine whether Kevin Garnett crossed the line calling Charlie Villanueva a “cancer patient.”

Kevin Garnett is one of the most notorious NBA trash talkers, constantly attempting to get inside of the head of opponents with sometimes nasty or shocking statements. But perhaps during Tuesday night’s 109-86 win over the Detroit Pistons, Garnett went too far.

According to Pistons forward Charlie Villanueva on his Twitter page, Garnett called him a cancer patient. Villanueva suffers from alopecia universalis, a disease that prevents him from growing hair. He has worked with various foundations and children with the ailment throughout his career.

“KG called me a cancer patient, I’m pissed because, u know how many people died from cancer, and he’s tossing it like it’s a joke,” Villanueva wrote on his Twitter page. “I wouldn’t even trip about that, but a cancer patient, I know way (too) many people who passed away from it, and I have a special place (for) those.”

And Villanueva took it a step further: “KG talks alot of crap, he’s prob never been in a fight, I would love to get in a ring with him, I will expose him.”
