Final: Celtics 110, Raptors 101

Final, Celtics 110-101: Celtics allow 34 points in the fourth quarter and survive in a game they should have won easily. The Celtics have to learn to close out lesser opponents and in two of the four quarters, they suffered defensuve lapses. Kevin Garnett led the Celtics with 26 points and 11 rebounds while Rajon Rondo added 14 assists.

Fourth quarter, 1:07, Celtics 107-97: Boston headed to victory but this one wasn’t easy. The Celtics led by 22 late in the third quarter and had to put the starters back in in the fourth when the lead shrunk. Kevin Garnett leads Boston with 26 and Glen Davis has 18.

Fourth quarter, 4:17, Celtics 102-93: Celtics have stepped up their defensive intensity and actually guarded Peja Stojakovic near the 3-point line. Four straight points has opened up the lead but the game is far from over.

Fourth quarter, 6;22, Celtics 97-89: The Raptors came raced back into the game with 3-pointers, including two from Peja Stokjakovic and one from Leandro Barbosa. The Celtics have slowed down and Glen Davis has been relegated to firing jumpers. He has taken 13 shots. Stojakovic has 11 points in 10 minutes.

Fourth quarter, 10:00, Celtics 88-74: Raptors have begun the period on a 7-2 run as the Celtics are playing carelessly as if the game is already won. Linas Kleiza leads Toronto with 12 points off the bench and Jose Calderon has eight assists.

End of third quarter, Celtics 86-67: Boston appears to have this one in hand with a strong quarter, holding the Raptors to 15 points on 3-for-19 shooting. Rajon Rondo has 13 assists and Shaquille O’Neal has 16 points and nine rebounds.

Third quarter, 2:00, Celtics 82-61: Boston is starting to pull away with some impressive defensive effort and throwing the ball into the paint for Kevin Garnett and Shaquille O’Neal. The duo has combined for 40 points and 17 rebounds. Rajon Rondo has 12 assists in his return.

Third quarter, 4:45, Celtics 74-58: Good news for the Celtics, during a timeout, a Reggie Evans putback was ruled no basket because of a 24-second clock violation, so the Celtics picked up two points. Kevin Garnett leads Boston with 22 points while Shaquille O’Neal has 16 and nine rebounds.

Third quarter, 6:30, Celtics 70-58: The Celtics defense is picking up and they are scoring in transition. Kevin Garnett and Shaquille O’Neal have combined for 36 points and 15 rebounds.

Halftime, Celtics 58-52: Last Sunday in Toronto, the Celtics allowed the Raptors to score 38 points. Tonight it was 32. The Celtics allowed Toronto back in the game with a porous quarter and several mistakes offensively. Toronto attempted 10 free throws in the quarter compared with two for the Celtics.

Second quarter, 3:13, Celtics 49-43: The Raptors went on a 12-0 run to cut the Celtics’ lead to one but the C’s have fought back with the starters. Kevin Garnett has 12 points and four rebounds while Rajon Rondo already has 10 assists. The team record for assists in a half is 19 by Bob Cousy.

Second quarter, 7:14, Celtics 40-33: Raptors on a 6-0 run and the Celtics are falling asleep against a team that’s starting to hit shots. Andrea Bargnani has six points and Linas Kleiza five. Ray Allen has nine points for Boston.

Second quarter, 8:51, Celtics 38-26: The bench is trying to maintain the lead and Nate Robinson is again playing strong backup point guard to Rajon Rondo. Semih Erden has four points off the bench. Andrea Bargnani has five points for Toronto.

End of first quarter, Celtics 31-20: A fine offensive first quarter but the Celtics need to be careful because Toronto eventually will begin hitting shots. The Celtics committed one turnover in the quarter and Rajon Rondo collected eight assists in nine minutes.

First quarter, 2:32, Celtics 28-16: All is well for the Celtics offensively, shooting 73.3 percent while Rajon Rondo already has eight assists. But they aren’t as sharp defensively as the Raptors are scoring on backdoor plays. Ray Allen has nine points and Kevin Garnett eight.
