Final, Celtics 100, Nets 75: Without Rajon Rondo, the Celtics come into Newark on a Sunday afternoon and dominate the Nets, holding them to 37.5 percent shooting. Nate Robinson dropped 21 points, six assists and six rebounds. Kevin Garnett went for 13 points and grabbed 14 boards, helping the Celtics up their record to 16-4.
Fourth quarter, 6:18, Celtics 91, Nets 62: The Celtics are up 29, the starters are on the bench relaxing. Robinson had another nice night of fill-in duty for Rajon Rondo, scoring 21 points. Garnett has another double-double (13 points, 14 rebounds). Bradley, Luke Harangody, and Wafer are on the floor with Semih Erden and Daniels, who had a 10-point night off the bench, to finish it off.
Fourth quarter, 11:44, Celtics 82, Nets 53: Things that come out of nowhere: A Robinson-to-Daniels alley-oop. Check the highlights.
Third quarter, 2:49, Celtics 75, Nets 48: Garnett is officially the loudest person in the Prudential Center. Nate Robinson sent a pass on a zipline, where only Garnett could get it. Brook Lopez had no choice but to foul, but Garnett heaved up a trick shot anyway. It danced around the rim and when it finally rolled off, Garnett let out a roar that echoed through the relatively silent arena, getting a chuckle out of the otherwise joyless fans.
Third quarter, 11:30, Celtics 59, Nets 37: Avery Johnson calls a timeout 30 seconds into the half after Garnett comes out and drains an 18-footer. Shaquille O’Neal will sit out the second half with a sore right calf.
Halftime, Celtics 57, Nets 37: It’s a 20-point game at the half and Ray Allen (11 point) is the only starter in double figures. Davis has the high with 12 along with five rebounds. Kevin Garnett is active on the glass again with nine first-half boards. The Nets couldn’t buy a basket in the second quarter (5 of 18).
Second quarter, 3:56, Celtics 46, Nets 29: The Celtics are on a 17-4 run. Daniels and Davis fueled much of it with 8 points apiece off the bench.
Second quarter, 9:52, Celtics 29, Nets 25: The scoring options are kind of thin for the second unit as it stands: Wafer, Bradley, Marquis Daniels, Glen Davis, Shaquille O’Neal. Wafer just made a strong move to the basket for his first points of the game.
End of First quarter, Celtics 27, Nets 25: Coach Doc Rivers threw Von Wafer and Avery Bradley on the floor in the first. Bradley checked in with 8.2 seconds left for the last play, which ended in a Damien James layup.
First quarter, 8:29, Celtics 13, Nets 11: At this point, Nate Robinson’s more than comfortable with the first unit. He’s got 8 of the Celtics first 15 points, knocking down a pair of early 3-balls. He’s got a tough assignment, though, in Devin Harris, who’s got 5 points already, using Robinson to draw a 3-point play.
