’99 Problems’ by Jay-Z feat. Danny Ainge

It’s a sign of the times when these two are in the same sentence, but Danny Ainge may have set a precedent for the NBA’s reported investigation of Nets owner and rap mogul Jay-Z.

The Brooklyn rapper was in Kentucky’s locker room after their NCAA Tournament win over North Carolina. It was an unplanned visit according to a Wildcats spokesman, but Jay-Z’s the owner of a team with a lottery pick and Kentucky has a few players that could very well end up in the lottery.

It’s an awkward early getting-to-know-you session that made CBS Sports’ Ken Berger think of Danny Ainge’s interaction with Kevin Durant’s mother in 2007, back when the Celtics thought they were in line for one of the top two picks in Durant’s draft.

In 2007, Boston Celtics GM Danny Ainge was fined $30,000 by the NBA for “excessive contact with the family” after sitting with Kevin Durant’s mother during the Big 12 tournament. What does that make Jay-Z guilty of here? Excessive dapping?

By Berger’s logic, “given that standard, Jay-Z should be docked $30K for each college player who was in the locker room.” He can afford it, right? As for Ainge, right now, the Celtics have 99 problems but tampering isn’t one.
