Welcome to US Airways Center for Celtics-Suns

PHOENIX — The Celtics begin their unofficial second half with a rugged road trip out west starting with the surprising Phoenix Suns, who are currently sixth in the Western Conference after being pick to be one of the league’s worst teams. The Suns could be seeking help before Thursday’s 3 p.m. trade deadline and the Celtics could be looking to move veterans for younger players.

So far their team is intact, including point guard Rajon Rondo, who is set to start tonight. We’ll find out tomorrow afternoon whether it will be his final appearance as a Celtic.

Pregame notes:

• Avery Bradley and Vitor Faverani were left behind in Boston to rehabilitate injuries and will not play on this trip. Bradley is recovering from a sprained right ankle while Faverano has a sore left knee.

• Rajon Rondo will not play in Saturday’s game at Sacramento because he said he is not prepared to play in the second game of back-to-backs as he continues to rehabilitate from knee surgery. Rondo will play Friday against Los Angeles.

• The Suns have Emeka Okafor’s expiring $14 million contract that is 80 percent insured to offer clubs in a deal but it is unlikely they will get Pau Gasol from the Lakers, who want more of the Suns’ assets of draft picks and young players.

• The Celtics are scheduled for a practice Thursday before taking on the Los Angeles Lakers on Friday. The trip concludes with games at Sacramento and Utah.
