Celtics Unlucky Again, Get No. 6 Pick in NBA Draft

The Boston Celtics fell victim to fate once again Tuesday night, receiving the No. 6 pick in the 2014 NBA Draft.

The Celtics had a 10.3 percent chance of landing the top pick in the draft and a 33.4 percent chance of jumping into the top three, but Boston’s ping-pong balls were not selected. Yet again, luck was not on the side of Boston, making 2014 another disappointing year in the team’s brutal lottery history.

Boston was bumped down one spot in the overall draft order, from five to six, after the Cleveland Cavaliers jumped above them during the lottery process.

The Celtics entered the night with a 34.2 percent chance of being given the sixth overall pick, which was the team’s highest probability for any possible pick. Boston had a 57.3 percent chance of landing the fifth overall spot or higher.
Incredibly, for the third time in the past four years, the Cleveland Cavaliers won the NBA Draft Lottery. They will have the first overall pick in the 2014 NBA Draft. The Milwaukee Bucks will pick second and the Philadelphia 76ers will pick third.
