Kansas center, NBA prospect, and Real Madrid fan Joel Embiid acted like any other sports fan Sunday night on Twitter, sending congratulations to a player he admired after Portugal and the US drew a 2-2 tie in World Cup Play.
The problem? The player, Portugal’s Cristiano Ronaldo, assisted on the goal that ticked off the home country of many of Embiid’s followers.

People can be cruel on Twitter, but they can be especially cruel with something to pounce on. Embiid has a broken foot and could miss significant time before he sees the court in the NBA.

As is typical on the social interwebs, many of the comments are not suitable for this fine publication. Embiid is a native of Cameroon who has lived in the US since 2012.
