In case you missed it last night feverishly trying to calculate Colton Iverson’s usage rate over the Celtics’ first two summer league games, one of Boston’s target free agents has gone off the board.
Gordon Hayward and the Charlotte Hornets have agreed to an offer sheet that will pay Hayward $63 million over four years, ESPN and others are reporting. The deal is the maximum amount a team could offer. Hayward and his agent had discussed signing with Cleveland, Phoenix and Boston before signing the deal with Charlotte, according to Yahoo! Sports.
The Jazz reserve the right to match the offer, and Utah officials have maintained all along that they will, even if it’s a maximum deal. The 24-year-old Hayward averaged 16.2 points, 5.2 assists and 5.1 rebounds last season.
