The Celtics released their new alternate logo on Monday, a day after the Boston Globe first reported the news.
The alternate logo (left) “is a combination of classic visuals that have been updated with a modern twist,” according to the team. The new logo “was inspired by the team’s past logos and pays homage to the Leprechaun logo from the 1960’s illustrated by Celtics’ Legacy Red Auerbach’s brother Zang.”
Naturally, the new logo will be used on a new line of merchandise, appearing this month on adidas apparel on the Celtics online store (celtics.com/shop). I dig the simplicity of it, though the absence of Lucky kind of makes it seem like he’s hiding behind the canvas somewhere.
