In exchange for Love, Cleveland will send Andrew Wiggins, Anthony Bennett and a protected 2015 first-round draft pick to Minnesota. Wiggins is eligible to be traded on Aug. 23, so the deal can’t be finalized until then. Unlike previous reports had stated, no third team will be involved.
As part of the deal, Love will opt out of his current contract and sign a five-year, $120 million-plus extension with the Cavaliers. Love joins LeBron James and Kyrie Irving in Cleveland and instantly makes the Cavs one of the favorites in the Eastern Conference.
Earlier this offseason, the Celtics had hopes of working a deal for Love, hopes that were furthered by Love’s visit to Boston in early June. Boston’s inability to swing a deal for Love seems to affirm the team will continue to build through the draft until another trade opportunity comes along.
