Kevin Garnett is a hard man to find during the NBA offseason. You might see a picture of him pop up on Twitter now and then, depending on if he’s showing off a winning smile with a dentist or hanging out with Snoop Dogg.
Generally though, Garnett falls off the face of the planet when summer rolls around, happily escaping the TV cameras that prominently focus on him during the NBA season. He even hides from the basketball world, as his new head coach Lionel Hollins still reportedly hasn’t been able to contact him since being hired in July. By all accounts, Garnett hasn’t surfaced since Brooklyn let his friend Paul Pierce walk in free agency.
That’s why it was a fun surprise last night to see ESPN cameras spot the veteran power forward coming out of hibernation to enjoy some US Open tennis action at Forest Hills with his wife Brandi. The highlight of the appearance was not just Garnett’s presence, though. Celtics fans will enjoy the caption the ESPN graphics folks used for the current member of the Brooklyn Nets.

To be fair, Garnett has not officially told the Nets whether he’s returning for his 20th NBA season. That may very well be the reason ESPN choose not to list Garnett as a member of Brooklyn Nets, instead focusing on his Celtic accomplishments.
Still, it might be in the best interest of everyone involved if people just ignore the Garnett Nets era and focus on The Big Three glory days moving forward.
