BOSTON — Just two weeks after the Boston Celtics traded away Rajon Rondo to the Dallas Mavericks, the star point guard was back in Boston Friday night to face off with his former team at the TD Garden.
As has been their custom in recent years for returning players, the Celtics organization honored Rondo with a video tribute at the conclusion of the first quarter. The 28-year-old spent the first eight-plus seasons of his career in Boston before dealt away for Brandan Wright, Jae Crowder, Jameer Nelson and future draft picks in mid-December.
Rondo waved to the crowd and doled out a couple of courtside hugs as he received a thunderous ovation following the video. The Garden crowd also greeted Boston’s former captain with a standing ovation as he was introduced in the Dallas starting lineup just prior to the opening tip.
