Paul Pierce has not been a part of the Boston sports scene for a couple years now, since being traded away to the Brooklyn Nets by the Celtics in July of 2013.
After spending 15 years in Boston though, it’s clear the Boston legend still has serious allegiances to the region, and specifically the New England Patriots.
Comcast Sportsnet caught up with Pierce in Arizona, ahead of the Washington Wizards’ matchup with the Phoenix Suns on Wednesday night, to talk about his Patriots fandom.
“I follow them religiously, every week,” Pierce said. “I wish I could be here for the Super Bowl, but I’m keeping up with them quite a bit.”
The 36-year-old became a Boston sports icon alongside Tom Brady last decade and hopes to see Brady add another championship ring to his collection on Sunday.
“I’m pulling for them hard,” Pierce said. “I want Brady to go out there and get another championship, cement his legacy, even though it’s probably already cemented as one of the all-time greats. The things he’s been able to do for the Patriots over the last decade and a half, it’s been special, watching the ride. I’m pulling for him.”
Just another reasons for Bostonians to love the Truth.
