Celtics point guard Marcus Smart was ejected for delivering a low blow to San Antonio Spurs forward Matt Bonner in the fourth quarter of a 101-89 loss on Friday night.
The play occurred with 8:46 remaining in the game and the Celtics trailing by 20-plus points. Smart was fighting through a series of screens on the perimeter while chasing Spurs point guard Patty Mills. In the midst of the chase, Smart appeared to wind up his right arm and strike Bonner in the groin.

Smart and Bonner exchanged words after the play. Following a video review, officials accessed the Celtics’ rookie with a flagrant-2 foul, which resulted in an automatic ejection. Smart finished with 10 points and four assists in 23 minutes.
