Northeastern outlasts Boston College, captures Hockey East title

The Huskies already had earned a berth in next weekend’s NCAA tournament.

Northeastern jumped off to an early three-goal lead and held on to beat Boston College, 3-2, for the Hockey East tournament title at TD Garden, winning its second crown in four years.

The third-seeded Huskies already had earned a berth in next weekend’s NCAA tournament, where it will be a No. 2 seed. But the Eagles, who were ranked well outside the qualifying zone, needed to win here to collect the conference’s automatic berth.
