David Wells was greeted with a torrential downpour of boos here at US Cellular on his way out to the Red Sox bullpen for his pregame warmups. Wells, of course, spent the 2001 season here on the South Side, where was 5-7 with a 4.47 ERA.
His offense has already staked him to a 2-0 lead here, as the Sox jumped on lefty mark Buehrle. Manny Ramirez continued his hot hitting off Buehrle by lacing a drive over left fielder Scott Podsednik’s head scoring Johnny Damon and Edgar Renteria. Manny is going to have a big night.
— The Cell is packed to the rafters again tonight, as hundreds of fans camped out by the box office looking for tickets that were not to be had.
— It remains hot, warm, and muggy here in Chicagoland, with temperatures at game time in the lower 80’s. A front moving in tonight is expected to finally cool things off, but the storm is not expected until after midnight. So we should be safe from a delay of the game. A thick haze has hung over the stadium since early this afternoon, but has not posed a threat whatsoever.
