Red Sox center fielder Coco Crisp is out of the starting lineup for Sunday’s game after jamming the index finger on his left hand.
Crisp injured the finger while trying to steal third base after he had singled then stole second base in the third inning of Saturday night’s game. Orioles’ pitcher Bruce Chen saw the steal attempt and threw to third baseman Melvin Mora who tagged Crisp out on the play.
Crisp’s finger started to swell during the game and remained swollen overnight.
“It was just a weird slide,” said Crisp on Sunday. “I didn’t feel it right then but as the innings went on it got a little stiff, that’s pretty much it… Somewhere in all the twists and turns of that slide, it got jammed a little bit.”
Adam Stern will get the start in center field and bat leadoff on Sunday. Crisp is expected to be back in the lineup for the Fenway opener on Tuesday.
