Ortiz feeling better

David Ortiz, who did a good job of hiding flu-like symptoms, said today that “this is the second day I feel a lot better. I was really sick in New York. We went back to Boston, that rain got me worse. I feel good now. I feel like I can finally breathe.”

The Sox DH said he was sick for a week and a half, which could help explain his May production (two HRs, after hitting 10 in April).

“I never had flu like that,” he continued. “I was getting better and we’d get one of those cold or rainy nights. This area [he pointed to his sinus] was really busy. Feels like somebody smacked me in the face. My body hurt. Terrible feeling man. I didn’t want to be out of the lineup either. I don’t get sick much but when I get sick it ruins my whole day.”

Ortiz looked better last night, which he said was the first time he’d felt well in a week and a half. He singled in the game-winning run in the sixth inning.
