The Red Sox signed nine of the players selected in last week’s first-year player draft, including Jonathan Papelbon’s younger brother, the team announced today.
Righthanded pitcher Josh Papelbon was one of eight of the signees to be assigned to the Single-A Lowell Spinners, who open their season next Tuesday at home.

Ryne Lawson (Round 30), RHP — Assigned to Lowell
Michael Chambers (Round 32), 2B — Assigned to Lowell
Thomas Beazley (Round 38), RHP — Assigned to Lowell
Jeff Vincent (Round 43), OF — Assigned to Lowell
Josh Papelbon (Round 48), RHP — Assigned to Lowell
The Red Sox today also announced that they have sold the contract of righthanded pitcher Jimmy Serrano to the SK Wyverns of the Korea Professional Baseball Organization. Serrano was 4-5 with a 2.50 ERA in 13 games (11 starts) at Triple-A Pawtucket this season.
