While it’s still unclear how serious the condition is, the Red Sox this morning acknowledged that doctors found enlarged lymph nodes on rookie pitcher Jon Lester during the course of medical tests on his aching back.
According to a statement attributed to Dr. Thomas Gill, Lester was admitted to Massachusetts General Hospital on Wednesday for further evaluation and testing.
“Jon is resting comfortably,” the statement continued.
The 22-year-old Lester was put on the disabled list Monday with a sore back, which the Sox said stemmed from an auto accident Lester was involved in on Storrow Drive at the time of the Yankees series.
The Boston Herald, NESN, and ESPN are reporting that Lester is being tested for cancer, among many other things, as part of a battery of exams.
