Wakefield gets first win in Sox romp

Tim Wakefield, the knuckleballer who was unable to generate much in the way of run support in his first outing (a 2-0 shutout loss at Texas April 6), earned his first win of the season in last night’s 10-1 romp over the Angels.

Wakefield, who went seven innings (5 hits, 1 earned run, 2 walks, 3 strikeouts), departed the game with a 4-1 lead in the top of the eighth. Boston’s lead ballooned to 10-1 after the Sox erupted for six runs on five hits to put the game out of reach in the bottom of the inning, much to the delight of a Fenway Park sellout crowd of 35,946.
