ARLINGTON, Tx. – So many Sox fans here tonight. Not long ago in the sixth inning they began a very loud “Let’s go Red Sox!” chant. That has to be tough for the opposing team to hear.
The chants, among the 37,974, certainly spurred on the Sox who sent 11 batters to the plate and scored four runs to take a 7-4 lead.
It’s always amazed me over the past 25 years or so, the number of Sox fans that show up in the most unlikely places. Over the past two years, they’re everywhere.
This semi-home game turned back in Boston’s favor here in the sixth when they erased Texas’ two-run lead off reliever Joaquin Benoit.
The funniest play was by Manny Ramirez, who tripled into the right field corner driving in Kevin Youkilis, the Greek God of Hits. The ball just stuck in the corner as if it fell into a hole. Sammy Sosa went over and tried to dig it out, but by that time Manny had made this grand belly-flop slide over the third base bag. He popped up smiling of course. It was his 17th career triple.
A wild pitch scored him.
After a Mike Lowell hit, Coco Crisp delivered the go-ahead single to the right side. Alex, I always want to call him Joey, Cora hit a sacrifice fly scoring the sixth run.
Benoit actually reloaded the bases with two outs. Youkilis walked to force in the seventh run. David Ortiz made two outs in the inning including the finale.
