Sox win for Lester

CLEVELAND – The Sox won one for Jon Lester.

They gave the young lefty, who has survived cancer four runs in the first inning on route to a 6-2 win over the Indians last night. Two of the best teams in the American League squared off with Boston re-introducing Lester back to the major league starting rotation.

The 23-year-old lefty didn’t disappoint. He went six innings and allowed five hits, a two-run homer to Grady Sizemore and that was it.

On an emotional night for Lester and his teammates, Coco Crisp led the offense with four hits. Boston scored four runs in the first inning, two coming on manny Ramirez’ double to left and J.D. Drew’s single to center field accounting for the runs batted in while Mike Lowell’s double-play grounder also got a run home.

Manny Delcarmen earned his first career save.
