Yanks’ “No” may have teeth

Late last night, Yankees owner Hank Steinbrenner told the New York Times there was no chance the Yanks would succumb to the Twins’ demand that Ian Kennedy be added to a package that already included top pitching prospect Phil Hughes and outfielder Melky Cabrera.

“That’s not going to happen,” Steinbrenner told the Times. “To give up two of the three, there’s no chance, not for anybody.”

So, does the clock run out on the Twins to get something done with the Yanks? Steinbrenner insisted his deadline was real, but of course, there’s no reason to be imposing artificial deals.

The Sox, meanwhile, may be content to let the Twins pass on their offer of Jacoby Ellsbury or Jon Lester but not both, as long as they know Santana isn’t going to New York.
