OK, so it’s probably not the surgery that first came to your mind when you read that, but Craig Hansen (remember him?) discussed his surgery in the offseason for sleep apnea, a procedure that he hopes will leave him better able to make an impact in the final year of the major league contract he signed after being picked by the Sox in the first round of the 2005 draft.
We’ll have more on Hansen in this space in a short while, but I also wanted to update all you interested Sox fans on a rather slow morning over at the player development complex. Manny Delcarmen and Javier Lopez showed up today, though neither of them stopped to chat. I’m sure we’ll get to talk to them in the coming days.
Terry Francona was also around, chatting with bench coach Brad Mills and a number of staff members, many of whom arrived at the complex for the first time this morning. He went out to a field shortly after coming in, stopping to talk with Jon Lester and assistant trainer Mike Reinold. He expects to speak with the media for the first time this spring training tomorrow. Both pitching coach John Farrell and bullpen coach Gary Tuck were around this morning, as well.
Josh Beckett made an appearance to work out, as did Daisuke Matsuzaka and Hideki Okajima.
More in a bit. Of course.
