The Reds held on to beat the Sox, 7-6, after building a 7-2 lead with five unearned runs in the sixth with Javy Lopez on the hill for the Sox. Sox responded with four in the seventh, with big hits delivered by Dusty Brown, Keith Ginter, and Joe Thurston, but Jed Lowrie was cut down at the plate attempting to score on Thurston’s infield hit. Sox left 13 men on base, and a throwing error by third baseman Keith Ginter led to the Reds’ big inning, though Lopez didn’t help himself by walking a man and hitting another before a bases-loaded triple by Andy Phillips.
