Out of the first

Daisuke Matsuzaka certainly got himself into a jam in the first inning — but he also got himself out.

After loading the bases on a walk, hit by pitch, and walk, Matsuzaka made a stellar play on a bouncer just inside the third base line, grabbing the ball barehanded and throwing off-balance to first base. But Daric Barton scored on the play.

Then he struck out Jack Hannahan swinging.

A’s, 2-0.
