Sox fall short; Ortiz ejected

BALTIMORE – The Red Sox, after dropping three out of four to the Twins, tonight lost the first of two games against the Orioles, 5-4, at Camden Yards.

The Sox scored three runs in the first but ace Josh Beckett couldn’t hold the lead and didn’t get out of the sixth inning. The Sox had the bases loaded nobody out in the seventh and didn’t score. Manny Ramirez knocked into a 1-2-3 double play.

In the eighth the Sox got one run but left two runners on base with one out.

The Sox couldn’t get anything going against lefty George Sherrill in the ninth. David Ortiz was ejected when he argued a third strike on a pitch high and tight on which plate umpire Laz Diaz said he went around.

Ortiz protested that he held up. Big Papi then stood at the top step of the dugout yelling at Diaz before Sean Casey and Sox coaches led Ortiz out of the dugout and down into the clubhouse.

The Sox went down in order.
