Lester not sharp

OAKLAND, Calif. – Don’t know if it’s the effect of throwing 130 pitches in his no-hitter, but Jon Lester isn’t quite as sharp today.

He’s thrown 84 pitches through four innings and allowed four runs (three earned) and is trailing, 4-1.

In the fourth, he walked Mark Ellis to start the inning, then allowed a single to Ryan Sweeney and an infield single to Kurt Suzuki. With the bases loaded, Jack Hannahan singled to center, scoring two runs.

Lester retired the next three batters to remove himself from further peril. Julio Lugo made a nice leaping play to prevent another base hit by Bobby Crosby, and then dropped back out to short center to haul in a popup by Frank Thomas to retire the side.
