Lineups and notes

J.D. Drew is out of the lineup tonight for the second straight game after he strained his back during Tuesday’s win against Minnestoa. Red Sox manager Terry Francona said “I think he’ll play tomorrow.”

– Francona said he was caught off guard by the talk of New York Yankees closer Mariano Rivera starting the All-Star game next week.

– Coco Crisp is a “little beat up,” Francona said. It’s not too serious. There was no injury to speak of, Francona said, but rather wear-and-tear concerns.

– Francona on seeing Clay Buchholz pitch tonight: “We’re excited. I think the one thing we’ll have to fight either way: If he throws goes nine and throws a no-hitter, he’s going to go to the Hall of Fame and if he gets hit around a little bit, he’s not good enough. It’s a start and sure it’s exciting, but the consistency of every five days will be telling. I think that’s why he’s back here is because we think it’s going to be pretty good.”

Key note: The current Orioles roster is hitless (0-19) against Buchholz. He pitched the no-hitter on Sept. 1, 2007 and allowed one hit in three innings on Sept. 6.
