With all the talk swirling that Manny Ramirez could be leaving Boston — either tomorrow or at season’s end — it reminds us of a time when another beloved-but-controversial superstar left town.
Four years ago tomorrow, the Red Sox traded shortstop Nomar Garciaparra, the face of the franchise for nearly a decade and one of the best ever to don the uniform, to the Cubs in a four-player deal. Things worked out, of course, but the move stirred Sox fans like nothing since Roger Clemens signing with Toronto in 1997.
