John Blake’s final act as Red Sox Vice President, Media Relations exemplified two of the qualities — diligence and humility — that made him so good at his job and so well-liked in the press box. The man sent out his own press release.
Blake announced that he is moving back to the Texas Rangers, where he worked from 1984 to 2004 and where he will now serve as a team vice president in charge of communications. Blake had been with the Red Sox since 2006.
“It is great to have a person of John’s caliber, revered throughout Major League Baseball, return to the Rangers,” Rangers team president Nolan Ryan said in the release. “John will be involved in a number of initiatives to help promote and enhance the Texas Rangers awareness while working with the members of our talented staff.”
Extra Bases wishes Blake the best and offers hearty congrats.
