Though the Red Sox won’t be staying in their current digs at City of Palms Park, they will be staying in Lee County. The Sox reached an agreement today to stay in Lee County for the next 30 years rather than head to Sarasota.
The new spring training stadium will be a single-site situation, something that Sarasota was not able to provide for the Sox. That means the minor leaguers and major leaguers will train at the same place, which is not what they currently have. The new park will open in 2012, with the Sox staying in City of Palms until that point.
