Sox trade Pauley

It might not be an earth-shattering deal, but the Sox did add another non-roster right handed reliever. The Sox sent David Pauley to the Orioles today for pitcher Randor Bierd. Pauley had been designated for assignment earlier when the Sox needed a spot on the 40-man roster for John Smoltz.

Bierd joined the Orioles after being picked from the Tigers in the Rule 5 draft. He went 0-2 with a 4.91 ERA in 29 relief appearances with the major league club last season.

Pauley pitched in six games for the Sox last season, and made two starts. He was 0-1 with an 11.68 ERA in the majors in 2008.
