Updates from the park

FORT MYERS, Fla. — So it’s probably not going quite as well as hoped for Northeastern. The Red Sox are on top here at City of Palms Park by a whopping 14-0 score as we head to the bottom of the fifth inning. A good portion of those runs (six, to be exact) came courtesy of two homers by third baseman Angel Chavez.

Who needs Mike Lowell?

(Yes, I am kidding. I promise.)

Chavez, who will play for Panama in the WBC, hit a grand slam in the first inning, then followed that up with a two-run shot in the third inning.

Other than that, there have been a few notable moments. Kris Johnson did well, giving up just one hit in his two innings and striking out three. Junichi Tazawa impressed in his second outing (or first outing in which he threw more than four pitches). Ino Guerrero got another at bat, popping up to the infield. And Pawtucket manager Ron Johnson got booed by the crowd for holding up Jacoby Ellsbury at third base on a long drive to centerfield that probably could have been an inside-the-park home run.
