Ortiz will be back in lineup tonight, but where will he be hitting?

David Ortiz didn’t really want to talk about any conversations with manager Terry Francona about dropping in the batting order. He took a seat on the bench yesterday, with lefty Francisco Liriano starting for the Twins. But with righties on the mound in the next three games for Minnesota, Ortiz will be returning to the lineup.

Asked if there had been a conversation with Francona, he said, “He’s the boss. I’m an employee. I follow orders. That’s the way it always has been.”

Asked where he would be batting today, he said, “No idea.”

Hitting coach Dave Magadan had intimated Sunday, after Ortiz went 0 for 5 (making him hitless in 13 straight at-bats), that the team would discuss dropping him in the order on the flight to Minnesota.

“My talk with David was kind of me and David,” Francona said. “I’ll make up the lineup tomorrow. I haven’t made it out yet.”
