Papi sparks rally

The Red Sox just broke the game open on a bases-loaded double by . . . David Ortiz.

A few minutes after Josh Beckett saw his no-hitter broken up with two out in the seventh, the Sox unloaded on the Tigers with six runs in the eighth to take a 10-0 lead.

It was 5-0 when Ortiz came up to face lefty Nate Robertson with the sacked juiced and one out. Big Papi hit a double to right-center, driving home a pair and sending thousands of Tiger fans into the streets around Comerica. Jason Varitek followed with a two-run double of his own.

Beckett drilled Gerald Laird — who had attempted to break up Beckett’s no-hitter with a bunt attempt earlier — with a pitch in the eighth. No benches emptied and no blows were exchanged.
