Papi to the track
David Ortiz can’t get a break. He just came up with a runner on second and two out in the top of the fourth and went out on a 400-plus foot flyball to Curtis Granderson, perhaps the best center fielder of them all. Ortiz is now 0 for 2 on the night.
Before Ortiz’s flyball, Mike Lowell hit into his major league leading 14th double play of the season. Lowell is a threat to Jim Rice, the all-time season record-holder — 36 GIPSs in 1984. Rice also hit into 35 in 1985.
Meanwhile, Josh Beckett has a no-hitter and a 2-0 lead as the fifth begins.
