That’s what Ned Martin would have said.
This ridiculous game is finally over. The Red Sox blasted 13 hits, committed three errors, and beat the Tigers, 10-5.
We were sailing along at a rapid pace. Josh Beckett had a no-hitter with two out in the seventh. Boston led, 4-0 in the top of the eighth. It was all tidy.
Everything went to pieces in the final two innings. Kevin Youkilis left the game with a leg injury after spiked on a play at first. He said later was OK. Mike Lowell was ejected for reasons still unknown. The Sox made three errors in the eighth and surrendered five unearned runs. Takashi Saito walked two batters and hit another in the ninth. After trailing, 10-0, in the eighth, the Tigers had the tying run on deck in the ninth. Josh Anderson flied to center to end it.
In short, it got very sloppy.
But at the end of the night it was another win and the Yankees were losing to Texas in the ninth and the Sox could be tied for first with the Yanks when play commences this afternoon at Comerica.
