PHILADELPHIA – The Red Sox added three more runs in the fifth. Right at the center of it was Julio Caesar Lugo. While we’ve all tried to bury Caesar, he’s showing some life with three hits tonight incuding an RBI single in the fifth.
There are scouts watching this tonight here at Citizens Bank Park. Lugo might be helping his cause as far as being traded out of Boston. That is if you want to trade him now.
Jason Varitek and Dustin Pedroia also had RBI hits in the inning. Pedroia broke an 0-for-10, undoubtedly inspired by his double-play combo partner.
Dice-K is a goner. He was pinch-hit for in the fifth by David Ortiz. It seemed as if Terry Francona was going for the jugular with runners at the corners with one out. Papi fanned on a questionable check-swing call by 3rd base ump Bill Miller. Papi didn’t like it.
Manny Delcarmen has come on in the fifth. Looks like the Sox won’t need Tim Wakefield, who was available to pitch if Dice-K had a shorter outing. In fairness to Dice-K the 1:35 delay probably hurt him.
By the way, the Phillies, given all of their bullpen and starting pitching injuries, should just bring Brad Penny a Phillies uniform and and make a deal right now. Unfortunately, the player the Sox coveted, Triple-A SS Jason Donalds underwent arthroscopic knee surgery.
