WASHINGTON – Don’t know how they’ll muddle through with the Kip Wells era over in Washington after the veteran righthander was designated for assignment to make room for Tyler Clippard from Triple A Syracuse. Clippard is the 41st player to play for the Nats. Only the Padres (42) have employed more. The Indians have also had 41 players on their roster.
Nats’ rookie righty Craig Stammen has already retired the Sox in order in the first and second inning and Jon Lester returned the favor in the bottom of the first.
The Nats rotation has combined for a 3.39 ERA in June. Too bad they can’t pitch complete games because the bullpen is killing them.
