Sox shut out

The Red Sox suffered a two-hit 6-0 shutout at the hands of 21-year-old Athletics lefty Brett Anderson tonight at Fenway Park.

Anderson showed an explosive fastball with great location in easily handling Boston’s makeshift lineup.

The Sox were without Dustin Pedroia, who missed the game to attend to a personal matter.

The Sox’ only hits were a pair of singles by Jason Bay in the second and Nick Green in the fifth.

John Smoltz was touched up for 10 hits and five runs in six innings.
