The Washington Post runs a video series titled “On Leadership,” and its most recent interview subject is Red Sox manager Terry Francona. The clip is definitely worth watching, (as is Part Two) and one subject is particularly timely with today’s roster decision looming. Adam LaRoche’s arrival means Francona will have to tell one Sox player his services are no longer required for the time being, at least.
It’s inevitable when you’re in a position of leadership, you’re going to have to tell someone something they don’t want to hear. But I think if they; if you’ve communicated with them honestly, sure, you might aggravate them for a couple days. They may not agree with your decision. But they won’t hold it against you for the rest of their career.
