Kelli Pedroia, the wife of Red Sox second baseman Dustin Pedroia, checked out of the hospital at roughly 1:30 p.m. Wednesday with the Pedroias’ new baby boy, Dylan. Dustin Pedroia is scheduled to return to the Sox for Thursday night’s game in Toronto.
“He knows if something were to change that we don’t anticipate, he can always change that,” manager Terry Francona said. “But he anticipates being here for [Thursday’s] game.”
Given some of the difficulties in Kelli’s pregnancy, it came as somewhat of a surprise that she went home from the hospital less than 24 hours or so after giving birth. “I think she’s a pretty tough kid,” Francona said. “Married to him . . .”
When Francona spoke to Pedroia, his spirits were high. “I think he’s excited,” Francona said. “He’s probably exhausted. Pretty proud.”
Nick Green took Pedroia’s place at second for the second straight night.
