Martinez OK, plans to play Saturday

Catcher/first baseman Victor Martinez, who left tonight’s game shortly after fouling a ball of his big left toe, said he is OK and will be in the lineup Saturday.

“It’s a little sore, that’s all,” Martinez said. “It’ll be fine tomorrow. I think I’m playing first.”

Jason Varitek, who had missed three games because of muscles spasms in his neck, replaced Martinez and hit a solo home run in the ninth inning. Manager Terry Francona had planned to start Varitek at catcher Saturday and Sunday.
