Report: Sox release Duncan

The Chris Duncan era appears to be over before it started.

The Red Sox released the outfielder, who hit just .188 with a .255 OBP in 92 plate appearances for Pawtucket, after less than a month with the team, according to the Providence Journal. Duncan was acquired from the Cardinals in a deal that sent shortstop Julio Lugo to St. Louis.

Lugo, meanwhile, is hitting .319 with a home run and 14 runs scored in 72 at-bats for the Cardinals. The Red Sox will also receive cash or a player to be named later in that deal.
